The OKC Society of Petroleum Engineers Young Professionals, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association’s Future Leaders program and the OKC Young Professionals in Energy have partnered to create and host the state’s first multidisciplinary energy forum for young professionals.

Event Purpose:

To engage young professionals working in all aspects of the energy industry in a forum that will provide an opportunity to enhance knowledge of the business and in developing a successful career. The forum is directed towards professionals with less than 10 years of experience but more seasoned professionals who are interested in the presented topics are encouraged to attend as well. Local interns and college students will also be invited.

Speaker Bios:

Larry Nichols, Executive Chairman and Co-founder, Devon Energy

J. Larry Nichols is a co-founder of Devon and has been a director since 1971. He was elected executive chairman in June 2010, after holding the position of chairman and chief executive officer since 1980. Mr. Nichols graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in geology, and he completed his juris doctorate at the University of Michigan. A leader in the industry, Mr. Nichols serves on the executive committee of the board of directors for America’s Natural Gas Alliance and the National Association of Manufacturers and is on the board of the Business Industry Political Action Committee in Washington, D.C. He is the former chairman and a current director of the American Petroleum Institute and American Exploration & Production Council.

Steve Hinchman, President and CEO, Highmount Exploration and Production LLC

Steve Hinchman holds a Master of Science degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Penn State University. Prior to joining Highmount, Steve enjoyed a 29 year career at Marathon Oil Corporation, where he held a number of technical, staff and managerial positions of increasing responsibility in domestic and international E&P. In 2000, Mr. Hinchman became senior vice president of worldwide production for Marathon. He retired from Marathon in 2009 as executive vice president of technology and services. In addition to being on the board of directors of the IPAA, Mr. Hinchman is an active member of the board of Interfaith Care Partners, the Industry Advisory Council at Penn State University  and is also on the board of the Foundation for Energy Education.

Jack Stark, Senior Vice President of Exploration, Continental Resources

Prior to joining Continental Resources as vice president of exploration in June 1992, Jack Stark was the exploration manager for the Western Mid-Continent Region for Pacific Enterprises. From 1978 to 1988, he held various staff and middle management positions with Cities Service Co. and TXO Production Corp. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists, Houston Geological Society and Oklahoma Geological Society. Mr. Stark holds a master's degree in geology from Colorado State University.

T.M. "Roe" Patterson, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Basic Energy Services

T. M. “Roe” Patterson has 17 years of related industry experience. He has been Basic Energy Services' senior vice president of rig and truck operations since September 2008 and has been the vice president of various groups within Basic since February 2006. Prior to joining Basic, Mr. Patterson was president of his own manufacturing and oilfield service company, TMP Companies, Inc., from 2000 to 2006. He was a contracts and sales manager for the Permian Division of Patterson Drilling Company from 1996 to 2000 and was an engine sales manager for West Texas Caterpillar from 1995 to 1996. Mr. Patterson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University.

Scott Stone, Manager, Spartan Resources, LLC

Scott L. Stone, CPL is Manager of Spartan Resources, LLC, an oil and gas exploration company owned by the Noble and Brown families.  He has worked for the families for over 30 years and serves as advisor for several other Noble/Brown oil and gas related entities. Scott graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Business Administration and also earned an MBA degree with honors from Oklahoma City University.  A long time member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) he is a past President in addition to many other leadership positions within AAPL. He teaches as a guest instructor for the Energy Management Programs for both the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa, is involved in OU Energy Management Mentoring Program and has served on the Board of Advisors for the OU program.  Scott is also an Executive Advisory Board member to the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University.  Also, within the Oklahoma oil and gas industry, Scott is an active member of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association (OIPA), currently serving on its Board of Directors.

Jeff Hume, Vice Chairman of Strategic Growth Initiatives, Continental Resources

Prior to his current position, Mr. Hume was President of Continental Resources, Inc. (CLR) from 2009 to 2012 and Cheif Operating Officer from 2008 to 2012. He also served as Senior Vice President of Operations, Senior Vice President of Resource and Business Development from October 2005, Senior Vice President of Resource Development from July 2002 and Vice President of Drilling Operations from 1996. Prior to joining CLR in May 1983 as Vice President of Engineering and Operations, Jeff held various engineering positions with Sun Oil Company, Monsanto Company and FCD Oil Corporation. Jeff is a Registered Professional Engineer in Oklahoma and member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association and the Oklahoma and National Professional Engineering Societies. Mr. Hume graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering Technology in 1975.

Dewey Bartlett Jr., Mayor of Tulsa and President of Keener Oil and Gas

Dewey F. Bartlett, Jr. is the 39th mayor of Tulsa. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Regis University and an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University. After graduating from SMU, he worked in the oil fields and spent two years as a landman with Beard Oil Company. In 1979, he earned his place as landman and co-managing partner at the family-owned Keener Oil Company and became managing partner in 1987. Mayor Bartlett has served as president of Tulsa-based Keener Oil & Gas Company since 1994. His civic service includes serving as a former Tulsa city councilor from 1990 to 1994. He also served as a former chairman of the Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board, the National Stripper Well Association and the Tulsa Airport Authority Board of Trustees and served as an Independent Petroleum Association of America board member.

Mike Cantrell, Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Continental Resources

Along with being the current chairman of Cantrell Energy Corporation in Ada and president of the Domestic Energy Producers Alliance, Mike Cantrell’s experience in the industry includes serving as President of Save Domestic Oil, a national coalition that enforces trade laws regarding oil dumping. He is a former chairman of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, the state’s largest energy association, and was a co-founder and chairman of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board, the nation’s first oil checkoff program. Mr. Cantrell is a member of the Industry Advisory Board for the National Association of Royalty Owners and an executive committee member for the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers. He also serves the state and his community as a board member for the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, Oklahomans for Lawsuit Reform and Citizens Bank of Ada.

Patrice Douglas, Oklahoma Corporation Commisioner

Patrice took office as Oklahoma Corporation Commisioner in October 2011. Prior to taking office, she was Edmond's mayor, practiced law full time for 13 years, joined the family business at ACP Sheet Metal, and served at multiple positions at various banks. During her time at ACP Sheet Metal, she faced firsthand the challenges of small business owners. Patrice says that community service is her passion and has been appointed by the Governor to serve on six different statewide boards and task forces. Patrice received the Kate Barnard Award for Outstanding Public Service in Oklahoma-the first municipal official to recieve this honor.
